Beautiful day
She was a wide-eyed wanderer who yearned to embrace the unknown. Her dream was to decorate the clouded canvas of life with images of her adventures.
It was a trip that would change her life; but the short ride to the hospital seemed to last for an eternity. Her heart skipped a beat, when the doctor reminded them about 'only 50 per cent chance'.
She had to wait for another 48 agonising hours. When the moment arrived, and the bandages came off, different hues of vivid lights flickered before her eyes. It was the dawn of the most beautiful day of her life.

Yearning
I've been bestowed with a fair share of academic titles and professional designations. The one that continues to elude me - and which I cherish most of all - is that of being a 'writer'. My family and close friends indulge me at times. When I urge them to critique my writing they don't shy away from lavishing praise.
"You've got such refined writing skills"
"This piece is comparable with the work of the best its genre"
"You're sure to win the first prize if you submit this for a competition"
"You're such a gifted writer!"
Their compliments are genuine, emotions heartfelt and love unconditional. It was this form of encouragement from an early age that egged me on. I acknowledge them humbly, albeit with a pinch of salt.

Alter ego
Helps me satiate my need to write
Keeps me ticking
And preserves my sanity.
He also annoys me
Poking fun at my desperation
Provokes me to accept mediocrity
Mocks me till I take short cuts.
I know he's just trying to reach out
Nudging me to follow my heart
Deep within the confines of my being,
I know there is a writer aching to break out;
Shrouded in my fear of the unknown,
he lends dignity to my servile existence.

If communications & marketing was a fruit?
A colleague from HR stumped me with
this question earlier today. He was doing prep work for an upcoming workshop
and found an eager volunteer for his dipstick test. After giving it some
thought, (and ignoring my personal favourite – mango) I answered grapes. It didn’t end there. His next
question was, naturally, why?
I justified the analogy by
highlighting some exceptional qualities of the fruit. a) A bunch of grapes
looks sightly and balanced; b) Sweet and tart at the same time, grapes can
easily be part of a fruit or vegetable salad; c) Grapes enable us to enjoy an
almost endless variety of wine; d) Grapes are indispensable part of our food
basket in their various shapes and forms - wine, jam, juice, jelly, grape seed extract, raisins, vinegar, and grape seed oil.
In the interest of brevity, I’ll
pass up the temptation to expound on likeness of these qualities to the Communications & Marketing function in an organisation.
Yet, I remain curious about the relevance of my analogy. It would be
interesting to get some more perspective on this. How would you answer this question?
